Reaching sponsors church and water well in Rudrampur, India—population 1,500
June 2007
The Well of Life Rudrampur project was recently completed in memory of Bob McGee. “I can think of no better way to honor the memory of my father than to complete this Well of Life project in India, and I would like to personally thank everyone who made a donation to make it possible” said Robby McGee, SoulWalk founder. Bob McGee passed away in February of this year. Bob’s family and friends wanted to do something special to make a difference in the lives of others, which is what they believe he would have wanted.
The Well of Life project establishes churches and fresh water wells throughout India. A “Well of Life” is drilled at each new church site; providing fresh drinking water for all who come to the well.
Well of Life churches are often constructed in remote, impoverished villages, many which are lacking proper roads, sanitation and fresh drinking water. The Rudrampur village, like so many in rural India, is home to a people who serve idols—shapes of gods and goddesses made of stone, wood, cheap copper or metal. Religion has a superstitious nature in this part of the world where education is rare and illiteracy is common. Many of the Rudrumpur villagers work at the local coal mine; others make a living by fishing. Often, parents rely on their children to help bring in the day’s catch as they struggle to feed their families.
The new Well of Life church at Rudrampur, in honor of Bob McGee, was constructed in the center of the village. The dedication service was a festival that attracted the entire village. The village leader thanked everyone involved in the project for the blessing of a well that would provide his people with clean, safe drinking water. On the first Sunday following construction of the church, more than 20 new believers joined. Many more people began coming every day for prayer; asking questions about the God that the new Well of Life church members were talking about.
The Rudrampur Well of Life pastor now holds two services on Sundays, with Sunday school classes in the morning and a youth service on Wednesday nights. The building is also being used during the week for a feeding program for local children. The children come to be fed not only physically but also spiritually as they hear stories from the Bible and learn songs that speak of God’s love.
The Rudrampur, India Well of Life project continues to serve as a lasting memorial of the McGee family’s unending love for their father, and a lasting reminder to the villagers of their Father God’s unending love for all.
